As of September 2014, all Ontario elementary schools have introduced Full Day Kindergarten programs, which has been received by a variety of reactions from parents. Is this the best option for your family and child?

Did you know that the Full Day Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs in schools are not mandatory programs?  Here is an option you may like to consider:

Since the late 1980’s, The Children’s Place has been offering very successful Junior Kindergarten programs at our centres as an alternative to the traditional school system.  While typical kindergarten classrooms have anywhere from 23 to 30 children with just one Teacher and Early Childhood Educator, we have an Educator to Student ratio currently of 1 to 8.

Who We Are:  We provide year end portfolio binders which you can take with you into your child’s senior kindergarten teacher, peer scaffolding and involvement in planning, in-house visitors, field trips and sleep overs. Extra-curricular opportunities with a dinner program are also available.

Our CurriculumWe model our program on the curriculum offered by the Ministry of Education.  The Ministry of Education has switched to the childcare model of play based curriculum however we maintain our mandate of easing the children into a more conforming style of learning which they will require in grade one.  In this manner, we believe we have designed a program that gives your child the very best in ratio’s, tutoring and teaching in preparation for the school system, along with a very strong basic academic start.

Our Belief as Educators:

  • Play is a means to early learning that capitalizes on children’s natural curiosity and exuberance
  • Respect for diversity, equity and inclusion are prerequisites for honouring children’s rights, optimal development, and learning
  • Early child development sets the foundation for lifelong learning, behavior and health
  • Knowledgeable, responsive professionals are essential to support the child’s potential at learning
  • A planned curriculum supports early learning
  • Partnerships with families and communities strengthen the learning paths for children

We provide a variety of activities and experiences that promote: independence, self-help skills, confidence and individuality.
